Effective Communication skills include:
Oral Communication involves:
Telephone Etiquette

Voicemail
Voicemail is usually recorded on an answering machine.
Answering machines are used when an office is left unattended. A pre-recorded message will play then time is given for the caller to leave a message. This message is recorded and can be replayed later
Taking Telephone Messages
It is extremely important for telephone messages to reach the correct person. This needs to be done promptly and efficiently. Most businesses will have a procedure for this. Take a look at Swaggies procedures for 'Taking a Phone Message' (p27).
Electronic Messages - a brief word
If your workplace has a network then messages can be sent electronically. This function is available in various software packages. It appears as a superimposed textbox on the screen when the worker logs onto the computer. Here is an example form Karabar Distance Education.
