Task 17 |
There will be times when letters, documents or parcels need to be delivered urgently. There are a variety of options available.
You have already looked at Australia Post's Courier Services in Task 9, where Australia Post can provide immediate 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour delivery service under certain conditions.
However, Australia Post competes against many privately owned courier services like FedEx, DPS and DHL. You looked at these briefly in Task 10.
When deciding on the best option, you will need to consider:
the cost
time constraints
delivery location
nature of the contents (bulky, fragile, confidential)
quantity of delivery items
Now it is time to look more closely at how you process urgent mail.
Different Types of Courier Service
The private courier service DPS Couriers, is a good example of the different services available to organisations.
Case Study: DHL Worldwide Express
Technology plays an important part in the processing mail. Most courier businesses will have:-
an email address
a website
www.dhl.com.au
DHL is a company that uses technology to enable it to provide a "fast, responsive and cost-effective service"
