How to Use This Document

 

This document is produced as a guide for Senior Secondary and TAFE vocational education and training teachers and students.  It contains information relating to those employers who are prepared to offer Year 11 & 12 students workplacement positions from time to time, but not necessarily every week.

 

This document is not to be copied and distributed for every student.  Any copies which are made pursuant to the Confidentiality Clause outlined below, should be collected from students by the teacher and destroyed once their purpose has been served.  When up-to-date copies are required for a new batch of workplacement students, please contact the Illawarra Schools Workplace Learning Program.

 

General Tips for Teachers & Students

1.      Students should make their selections carefully, taking into consideration all of the workplacement information provided.  In particular, students should keep in mind:

¥     the working hours and days offered by the employer, especially when split shifts are required;

¥     the student criteria set down by each employer and whether the student meets that criteria;

¥     their capacity to travel to and from the placement.

2.      Teachers should guide students when making their selections taking into account the criteria set down for each employer.  This ensures that students are better matched with employers and avoids potential problems with the placement.

3.      Where more than one student selects the same employer, teachers must indicate which student is most appropriate for that particular workplacement as program staff at the Illawarra Schools Workplace Learning Program are not in a position to make that decision.
