Accident Where an injury or illness occurs due to a workplace hazard
Award A formal document giving details of the agreement between the unions and employers. it sets out the minimum terms and conditions of employment for employees covered by that award.
Emergencies A sudden or urgent event requiring action.
Enterprise Agreements Agreements made between employer and employees at a particular workplace.
Equipment The tools, machines, resources etc needed for a job.
Government A system of governing a nation, state or local area.
First Aid Officer A workplace of 25 or more people must have a person responsible for the first aid kit. They must have had training e.g.. doctor nurse first aid certificate such as St John's ambulance
Hazards Something that has the potential to cause harm (injury or illness) or loss ( damage to property or equipment).
Hazard symbols Recognisable symbols warning of a potential hazard. These are shown on posters, labels, cones and signs.
Legislation Laws - often called acts.
Manual handling A term used to dispatch every-day activities like carrying, stacking, pushing, pulling, rolling and sliding.
Occ. Health and Safety  Concerned with the health and safety of people in the workplace. This includes employees, contractors and visitors to a workplace.
OH&S Committees In NSW an employer must set up an OH&S committee if there are more than 20 employees at the workplace and a majority of employees ask for one. There are guidelines to the formation and functioning of these committees.
Participative Arrangements  This occurs where employees are involved in the management of OH&S in the workplace. This will include OH&S committees and training for employees.
Risk The likelihood of an injury or disease occurring as a result of a hazard.
Safety Audit Regular inspection of hazards and risks in a workplace.
Workplace Procedures An established process of dealing with a range of workplace situations e.g.  Procedure for report an accident or emergency evacuation procedures.
