It is important to keep records up to date for several reasons:

  1. It is a timewaster if the business cannot quickly access this information
  2. It may be costly as important documents (that may include cheques or invoices) are not sent to the correct address
  3. This in turn can cause unnecessary delays that reflect poorly on the business
  4. Bulk mail-outs become costly because they do not reach the recipient - who may be waiting for the information
  5. There could be unfortunate consequences if emergency numbers / contact numbers for staff are not accurate.
