Implications

Although the overall distribution of Australia’s population is not changing much, many urban areas are increasing in size as a result of population movement. This has resulted in a number of problems.

Here is an illustration with features that are typically associated with urbanisation. Can you spot at least five problems or issues in this urban area?

Many governments (state and local) see urban consolidation as a solution to the problems associated with expanding urban areas. Urban consolidation means increasing the amount of people within an area through developments such as medium density housing.
