Carrying out housekeeping routines

As you have discovered, there is a lot of work involved in keeping your work areas clean, organised and safe. When are you ever going to find the time to do all these things? The secret is to carry out your housekeeping routines safely and efficiently, without inconvenience to your customers and workmates.

Here's Stuart, who works in the Electrical Department of the MegaMax Department Store. He's listening to a customer complain that she couldn't get to the display of air-conditioners yesterday because the walkway was being vacuumed.

If Stuart's department had a suitable housekeeping routine, the customer would not have been inconvenienced in this way. Most routine housekeeping duties can be quickly carried out safely during the day. However, major tasks such as vacuuming should be completed either before or after the store opens each day so that customers and staff are not inconvenienced in any way.

In the following exercise, you are going to look at a list of the housekeeping duties that take place in MaxSurf. You will need to decide whether each duty would be done daily, weekly or monthly.

Some duties may need doing more than once each day - if this is the case, put them in the "daily" column.

As you saw in that exercise, a lot of routine housekeeping duties need to be carried out daily - some of them would need to be done several times a day to maintain a clean, tidy and organised work area.

In the next exercise, you're going to help the MaxSurf team develop a housekeeping routine to assist them in keeping their store organised, clean and safe.
